About Matches
The purpose of the NJ Qualifying Match is give participants across the state a chance to qualify to be a part of the New State Team which will compete on a National Level at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational. This event is solely an Individual Competition. The NJ 4-H Shooting Sports Qualifying Match consists of 5 disciplines with 3 events in each:

A committee designated from the Advisory council will review the top ranked match individuals and select the four eligible participants and two alternates in each discipline to represent the State Team(s). If a 4-H’er qualifies to participate on more than one state team, that 4-H’er will have the end of the last state match to declare their intentions to the State Advisory Council. It is the responsibility of the 4-H’er to notify the State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator.
An important note – just because a member is a top shooter does not guarantee that they will be a member of the state team. If the individual does not help with fund raising, does not attend the required number of team practices, or demonstrates behavior/ attitude unbecoming of a 4-H member, they will be disqualified and an alternate will take their place.
Attitude and effort must be present. At any time, the team coach can recommend not entering a team at Nationals. The final decision not to send a team will be determined by Rutgers University 4-H Department Faculty and Staff.
Team Captains - After each team has met for at least three meetings, the members of the team will have an election for team captain in the same manner clubs choose officers. In the case that there is a tie, the coach will select the team captain. The team captain will represent the team, be the lead at presentations, and provide leadership for the team.
